Often referred to as “Kyoto style coffee,” cold brew coffee has been refreshing the Japanese since Dutch traders introduced it in the early 17th century. Over the last decade, cold brew towers have been popping up in coffee shops across the United States, creating a mass of devoted cold brew drinkers wherever they appear.

Yama Cold Brew Towers are as unique in appearance as they are in quality. Hand blown since 1978 in Yama’s environmentally friendly factory in Taiwan, they are often the catalyst for great coffee centric conversation. Whether you explain their function to a friend or to a new customer, or discuss flavor profiles with an avid coffee enthusiast, cold brew towers provide more ways to engage with your local coffee community.

Cold brew coffee is a great way to see coffee through a different lens. While standard slow brew methods use hot water to extract flavor over a period of about 4 minutes, using a cold brew tower slowly drips room temperature or cold water through the grounds at approximately 1 drop every two seconds. It can take 8-12 hours to get the final product, but good things come to those who wait.

When you compare a cup of coffee from a cold brew tower to a hot cup made with a Kalita or a V60, the difference is night and day. Cold brew coffee delivers unparalleled smoothness and virtually no acidity, pulling out flavor notes that you can’t get from a standard slow brew. Deep, rich, and naturally sweeter, there are plenty of reasons that cold brew coffee is becoming more popular in the U.S.

Each Yama Cold Brew Tower comes with four parts and the stand to house them:

This piece holds a mixture of ice and water. A fixture at the base controls the flow of water and allows for some level of experimentation with drip rate and extraction.

This is where the coffee goes, put in an absorbent paper filter. A medium to medium fine grind is suggested, but it’s always fun to experiment.

The most eye-catching part of the cold brew tower, the glass coil adds a theatrical touch to spark conversation and entertain.

The bottom beaker is the final piece of the cold brew tower, and is for collecting and serving the results of your labor.

Each piece of the tower is hand blown from heat resistant borosilicate glass, and is dishwasher and microwave safe.
