Side-handle teapots are an elegant way to grace tea time and are enjoyed for their presentation. Historically the Kyusu (side pour teapot) was used in Japanese tea ceremonies but more popular amongst the geisha community. A geisha hostess would sit on a mat on the floor, with her legs tucked under her, and pour the tea from these lovely pots. This position of the body with hot water is much more challenging than sitting at a table so it had to be done with complete elegance and grace. Today most people enjoy this technique by sitting across from one another at a table and since everything is done at eye level they find it tremendously pleasing to the eye.
The Yama Side Pour Teapot is ideally used for powdered green tea and herbal infusions with a mesh filter that is removable so leaves don’t make it into your cup. Each piece is handcrafted with high-quality borosilicate glass to showcase the beautiful leaves infusing inside.
