This 14 gram portafilter basket, while not an original OEM part, is quite popular amongst those who have realized it's benefits.
This actually is a higher quality reproduction of the infamous double basket without a retaining ridge. So what's the big deal with this basket size and shape? Why is it without a retaining ridge and why is it so popular?
A handful of years ago, a little mistake was made at the original manufacturer and the ridge was not stamped into the basket. Turns out that this was one of those happy accidents of advantageous mistakes that has been beneficial to those who enjoy making perfect espresso. The lack of a retaining ridge allows the use of a 58mm hand tamp and the the pattern and hole aperture of the basket proves to be beneficial to espresso preparation. Perfect for commercial use or with prosumer machines like the Rancilio Silvia and others. Back in the day we requested another round of mistakes, and another, and so on. We've recently had them manufactured to our updated specs and using more precise updated manufacturing techniques with a post production clean up and deburring. Hold it up to the light and witness the glory or the perfectly formed holes with zero blockage left behind from misshapen or unpunched holes.
These baskets at these prices are the future of precision espresso machine parts. Stayed tuned and see what we do next.More on our new HQ Precision Filter Baskets:
The creation of perfect espresso doesn't stop at the group head. That was the stance we took when heading down the path looking for better portafilter baskets. As a result of testing a lot of baskets, we found that there was a particular basket in the bunch that performed better than the others. Now all we had to do was find the people behind the work. All we can say from here is that as luck would have it, it seems we were looking for each other. The result are these awesome portafilter baskets with a micro-fine finish, created utilizing a technique developed by the manufacturer.
The final process used in the creation of the baskets may be the most important. Not only does it leave a distinct sunburst pattern, the inside bottom of the baskets receive a final cleaning using a laser to remove any jagged edges from the perforation process. The result is that every hole in the basket is clear of metal debris and the holes are of even size and shape, allowing for a more even distribution of water through the extraction.
We are offering four different baskets at this time. The idea was to create four baskets based upon our most popular selling baskets.
We are excited to offer these quality created baskets, and we think you will agree that the results are in the cup!

As the name implies, this is a high quality basket. Polished surfaces, cleanly finished holes, smooth bends. Fits in my Bezzera Strega perfectly and allows me to fit up to ~18g before I notice the coffee hitting the screen. I seem to get my best results with this basket between 16 17g.

These are awesome. Much better than the ones that came with our La Marzocco portafilters. Tamping is much easier and cleaner. We dose 17.5-18g and they work alright :) However, they do not fit perfectly. A bit loose, not enough to fall out but does rattle.

I paired this with my NS Oscar. I notice the extra smooth internal surface finishing of the basket, this makes cleaning easy. The perforation is done precisely with the countersunk-like feature(or assuming from de-burring process) on the external side, as opposed to the internal side of the stock NS basket. With a better internal basket bottom surface, it improved consistency in espresso shot, noticeably with a naked portafilter.

I bought this for a Saeco-Starbucks Sirena using a Gaggia bottomless portafilter. Although this micro-fine hole filter basket is good, it does not work well with that system. However, the one WITH the ridges (SKU = EPF_870N) works perfect. The ridges appear to hold the filter just a bit higher, getting the work done.

I purchased two of theses along with a bottomless portafilter. I replaced the original basket with one so that my does can be the same in both portafilters. Nice big basket, can easily hold up to 20grams depending on your shower screen. Holes appear very uniform. Good buy.

I purchased 4 of these for my Expobar Leva. Fits well and I get 18 to 20 grams in the basket depending upon the bean. Works like a charm. Attractive finish too. I love the quick service and Free shipping to Hawaii.

Using this with a Quickmill Vetrano. Fits portafilter securely enough to knock out puck and still be easy to pull out. I do two different coffees each morning so I need quick change and this fits the bill.

I ordered 3 so I could standardize my shots better. They are very nicely made, all virtually identical and finish is excellent.

Note that the holes in this particular version are concentrated in the center of the basket and don't extend all the way to the edges. This is different than the previous version of this basket, and effectively leaves the coffee around the outer 1/4inch of the basket with no direct path out the bottom. I'm still playing with them, but it doesn't seem like an optimal design. You can see this effect clearly in the first two pictures.

I bought this part based on a recommendation from a barista at Intelligentsia Cafe while I was visiting Chicago. It is well-made and does a great job. Also, Espresso Parts shipped it very quickly and I got a special for free shipping The only downside is that I was hoping that the part would fit in my stock Rancilio Silvia portafilter, and it does not. It only fits my bottomless portafilter.

Works well but produces a noticeably more soggy coffee puck than Espresso Parts' previous version of this filter basket.

Works great with Expobar Office Control

Very nice. This basket is easy to remove for cleaning yet stays in place when knocking out. Perfect fit on my Promac with E61 heads.

Had a very high quality feel to it. However mine leaks water from the side and hence is useless. One thing I have noticed with these HQ baskets is that the entry holes (on the top) seems be smaller than the exit holes (on the bottom). I don't know if this makes a big difference in extraction. But using it with a bottomless portafilter, I have noticed you almost always get a single stream no matter what distribution or tamping you used. Not sure if this is a good thing, as it might mask bad distributions and tamps.

The HQ14 has become one of my favorite baskets pretty much replacing my old Synesso style baskets. They work great on my Speedster my Strega.

I purchased this along with the basket WITH a ridge. I like the ridge better in my basket. They are both really nice baskets, though. Thanks, NT
