1/4" Brass Anti-Vacuum Valve
DISCONTINUED. Now in production, the new stainless steel version.
Also called siphon, anti-siphon or vacuum breaker valve. This valve allows air to escape the boiler as the water heats up, hissing and then closing off when the boiler water reaches it's operating temperature, sealed by the steam pressure created. Measure your existing valve: the outside of the male threads of a 1/4" BSP fitting measure 1/2". One may also use part W_517.
Gaskets are not always required; as the valve and boiler expand any small leaks at the junction will likely disappear forever. A good rule of thumb: if your valve and boiler had a gasket, get a new replacement for added assurance.

Fits and works just fine on the older GS3. Still want to convert the machine to a newer-style setup with a drain line, as when the valve starts to fail it releases steam inside the body of the machine above the try that holds the circuit board. I lost a board to this ~2 years ago.

This didn't show up on the parts lists for my first gen Rancilio Epoca, but it looked identical to the old part so I took a chance and bought it. Great purchase...works like a charm.
