Every coffee bean has hundreds of flavors and aromatics locked inside. Handground’s goal is to make it easy for anyone to achieve a consistent grind and release the full flavor potential in every cup you brew. Inspired by a Performance Camera Lens. It takes precision focus to brew a brilliant cup of coffee. They drew inspiration from the focus ring on a camera lens to make choosing a coarseness level simple. Twist the numbered ring to choose from 15 different coarseness settings. Each setting raises or lowers the conical ceramic burr mill by 165 microns. Achieve a Consistent Grind, Every Time. At the heart of Handground is a 40mm ceramic burr mill that was designed for the optimal balance between torque and speed. The stainless steel axle that drives the burr is mounted in three locations to eliminate burr wobble and create a consistent grind.
Lock And Load
I got in on the original Kickstarter hoping for a modern replacement for my antique Dienes. (the wooden box is getting a little rough from years of use). The Handground is a perfectly good hand grinder you will be happy with. I love the design and build quality, but my Dienes cranks out more grinds per turn and has better uniformity. Of course, good antique hand grinders are hard to come by, and hit or miss on grind quality. You won't go wrong with the Handground - I was just surprised that modern manufacturing tech couldn't best my 50+ yr old grinder.
This is a really great hand grinder. It has several features that make it easy to use and that provide an enjoyable grinding experience versus other hand grinders, including 1) the handle being positioned on the side rather than on top (easier on the arm than grinding in a horizontal motion); 2) the numbered grind settings make finding the right grind size easy; 3) the sticky pad at the bottom makes it easy to keep the grinder in one place while grinding. The burrs crush coffee beans just right and I’m enjoying my coffee. It’s a well designed piece that’s worth the $.
