Portafilter Pressure Gauge Kit
My Gaggia Classic was set to 13 1/2 bar from factory. The only way I could get good crema was to tamp coffee in basket as hard as I could push down. Otherwise, hot water was pumped through coffee too fast, resulting in strong coffee (not espresso) and no crema. With the Portafilter Pressure Gauge Kit I was able to adjust pressure down to between 9 - 10 bar. This has resulted in reliable espresso, brew time and crema at normal (30 lb.) tamping pressure.
Seen many ways to make it cheaper, it was worth the extra $20.00 I spent. No leeks, no guessing, no anything, install it, meassure, correct the OPV and everything perfect. Thanks. To anyone reading this review, make the investment, it is worth it.
This gauge threaded right into the spouted PF of my CC1. It displays pressure at the portafilter easily and conveniently. There's really not a lot to say - screw it in, turn on the machine, and see its pressure. The only thing to keep in mind is that pressure to a blank puck vs. one with grounds will differ slightly.
