They say great minds think alike. I don't know if we qualify, but the Barismo guys have a great mind for coffee and espresso.
First and foremost, what is the "B-Spec" or "Barismo Spec" Tamper? Currently, our version of the "Barismo Spec" Tamper is a matte finished EspressoCraft tamp handle and custom brass bezel mod'd to fit the classic Espresso Parts height convex piston. Why the Espresso Parts piston? Our original piston design was machined to a vertical height on the sides that complimented a perfectly dosed basket. Basically, if you dosed correctly the piston edge would meet up perfectly with the basket edge. Besides knowing wether or not you were dosing accurately, leveling could be easily confirmed with a quick glance or feel. The story of the EC/EP tamp was to be a short one. With the advent of last year's Home-Barista.com Tamper Roadshow we at Espresso Parts got to thinking about putting together the Espressocraft Handles with our pistons since both have the same thread size and pitch. We know how much everyone loves "modding" stuff we figured this would be a welcome mix for more than a few like minded barista out there. About a month or so after we fabricated a Delrin bezel to "make it so", I ended up at the Barismo.com blog site and saw a picture of the exact tamp we had made only with a brass bezel in place of our Delrin.
Long story short, we liked the brass/stainless contrast so much that we ended up making the "hybrid" bezel out of brass too. After a few email exchanges and a new batch of our old style, taller convex tamper pistons and presto the "Barismo Spec" Espressocraft/EspressoParts hybrid was born. After meeting with the Barismo at the Jam in Ham, Bellingham's Barista Jam last Spring we added their final detail of a matte finished handle. |
