Just when you thought the espresso knock box couldn't get any better, along comes Bumper Products with this cool new design. Bumper is the creation and work of Paul Pratt from Hong Kong. Some of you may know Paul from his work at Just-Java or www.Espresso-Restorations.com.
Paul has a real eye for detail and it shows in his new knock box and tamp designs.

Built from thick wall stainless steel, this espresso knockbox features a thick rubber gasket at the bottom to help dampen sound from the knock out process, and another gasket (and replacement) along the top for hand protection and comfort. The heavy rubber duty portafilter knock bar, also comes complete with 1 replacement cover. The Bumper knock box is finished in a brushed stainless has the enough volume to function in nearly any commercial or home espresso bar. The box is 16cm in diameter. It is large enough for a coffee bar and cut enough for home use. It features a non-slip bottom gasket, a top gasket to prevent damage to the portafilter and custom made bar and bolts. The Bumper Knock Box looks great next to and will surely be a compliment any espresso machine.

This knockbox from Bumper has again been designed especially for the professional and the home barista with no compromises - just solutions.

What is it?

The knockbox consists of a 1 piece stainless steel tub, a bump bar, 2 bump nuts and then upper and lower gaskets. The upper gasket is optional as it prevents you from damaging the portafilter if you happen to accidently hit the knockbox. Personally I think the box looks better without it! The lower gasket provides a non-slip base and soundproofing.

Design and function

All parts have again been custom made with no compromises whatsoever. The steel has been finished in a satin brush finish to our specifications. The gaskets and bump bars are available in 3 colours black, brown and green.

The bar has been designed so that it is both durable to withstand the bangs and so that it will cushion the blows of the portafilter to reduce noise and strain on the wrists of the barista. Inside the bar is a stainless steel stud which is then held in place by the 2 nuts at each end.

The nuts proved to be the most tricky part of the whole knockbox as it was always our intention to have a clean look and no nuts or bolts visible. The solution came from our bumper handle. The bump nuts are stainless steel covered by the bumper material the bumper material provides a good gripping surface so you can tighten the nuts and maintain the clean look.

Quality and durability

Again this is made in China but we have been involved in the design and construction specifications. The steel tub is designed to last for many many years to come. The gaskets and the bump bars are also made from durable materials although we would expect the bar to require replacement from time to time.
